Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-Nine

How 'bout them Pens?!?! I have to say that I was incredibly freaked out last night, but it was a good game and watching it on the big screen made it so much better. LETS GO PENS!!! I hope you all enjoy this chapter, as always comments are greatly appreciated.
Fifty-Nine
“Good morning baby, it’s time to get up.”

She rolled over in bed and looked up at the ceiling. “I don’t wanna get up.”

“Babe, you’re the coach you have to be there, and it’s going to take twenty minutes to get there.”

“Fine,” she sat up and kissed Jordan’s cheek before going to the bathroom to get ready. “I kind of feel bad for making it so the kids can’t have gym class.

“Well I’m sure that they’ll be fine with Penguins’ training camp happening in their gym. And we are going to get them out of class later this year.”

“True, is Scotty ready?”

“In the living room with Nik.”

After grabbing a pack of Pop-tarts from the kitchen the Staals made their way to the car and twenty minutes later pulled into the upper parking lot at St. Sebastian’s. Miriya picked up a bag full of tennis balls form the trunk of her car and walked and in hand with Jordan to the school gym. Most of the team had arrived around eight forty-five and sat on the bleachers awaiting instructions. Nine o’clock came and Miriya did a head count to make sure that everyone was there, “We’re missing someone, but who?”

The door flew open and in ran Colby short of breath, “I’m so sorry I’m late coach. Traffic was horrible.”

“It’s alright Colbs sit down, but let this be a lesson to you all. Lateness does not sit well with me, if you are told to be somewhere at nine o’clock get there by eight forty-five. Colbs, you will have to run sprints later for being late.” Colby nodded as some of the rookies looked nervous. “Okay, have you guys ever heard of butt-ball?” At this some of the guys smiled while others looked confused. “It involves one of these,” she pointed to the huge wall along the side of the gym, “One of these,” she held up a tennis ball, “and one of these,” she turned around and shook her ass causing a lot of the guys to let out catcalls. “Thank you boys. Now to help me explain the rules are two people I used to work with, my friend Matt and best friend Ryan.” Both men came down from the stage and hugged Miriya, Ryan holding her longer than Matt. “Thanks for coming.”

“You know I wouldn’t miss hanging out with my best friend, especially when it’s for a mass game of butt-ball.”

The three friends demonstrated things that could happen during game play so that they team would understand.

“Coach are you gonna play?” Geno asked after the rules were explained.

“You think I would miss playing with my boys?” The team laughed at this. “I can watch you guys from a competitive level.”

Ryan threw the ball first, a high bounce that went to a cluster of rookies. “Catch it,” Miriya yelled. Eric Michaels made a snag with his right hand. He was about to threw after switching the ball to his left hand when Miriya spoke up, “You have to throw with the hand you catch it with.”

“Aw coach.”

“Come on Ric,” most of the guys urged him to throw the ball.

Balls were bobbled, throws missed the wall, guys ran, and lives were lost. “That’s three for you Eats, you’re done.” Miriya said with a smile and Mark made his way to the bleachers as play continued.

In the end it came down to Ryan, Matt, Jordan, Sid, Brooks, and Miriya. “Go Coach!” The guys said from the bleachers. Brooks threw, Jordan bobbled, Miriya got a hold of it and whipped it at his back before he got to the wall. “Sorry babe, that’s three.” Next she got Brooks out after he bobbled it, then Sid and Matt. It was down to Ryan and Miriya, they were both ready.

Ryan had the ball and threw, with a dive Miriya made an amazing catch. She was slow to get up which caused the guys to get up from the bleachers. “Staalsy, you okay?” Nik asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Ryan can you give me a hand?” Being very careful not to lose the ball Miriya got back to her feet. She threw, caught, Ryan threw, Miriya bobbled it but somehow made it to the wall it time, because Ryan missed he had to run but was hit before he made it. “Good game Miriya, you finally beat me.”

“Good game. Boys help me in thanking Ryan and Matt for taking the time to come out and help.” Everyone applauded as Miriya gave both Ryan and Matt a hug. “Thank you.”

“Yep, let me know when we’re doing movie night.”

“Okay Ry, see ya.” Once Matt and Ryan had left Miriya made her way to the center of the gym. “Good job today boys, you did better than I thought you would. Go home and enjoy the rest of your day, but be at the arena ready to practice at ten tomorrow.” She looked at her phone to see that it was almost one. “All of the kids should be done with recess so you shouldn’t have a hard time getting out of here. See you all in the morning.”

Everyone got up and quickly left, talking amongst themselves. “Jordan you wanna go with Nik since I have to stay here with Colby?”

“Sure, hey Nik wait up. Bye baby, bye Colbs.” He kissed her lips, her check gently, and then headed to the door.

“Alright coach I’m ready, sprints you said?”

“Yeah, one the far line,” she said walking to the line herself.

“What are you doing?”

“Well I need to stay in shape and since all I’m going to be doing all season is standing behind the bench I’m going to do sprints with you,” she said with a smile.

They did sprints for about twenty minutes, said their good-byes and went their separate ways. Miriya made it home in fifteen minutes to find Nik and Jordan showered and watching TV with Scott in the living room. “Hey boys, I mean hey Nik, hey Jordan.”

“Sup coach, I mean Miriya.”

“Whoa Nik you haven’t called me Miriya in a long time,” she said with a laugh. “But I’m gonna shower, find something to eat, and feed Scott.” She made her way up the half flight of steps to her room and took a short but relaxing shower. She threw on a pair of RBK shorts and an old Guins t-shirt before making her way to the kitchen. There she found Jordan with a sandwich, plate of chips and a glass of Pepsi. “Aw baby thank you, I love you so much,” she threw her arms around him.

“I love you too, how you feeling since the game?”

“I got a nice bruise of my leg but other than that I’m okay. How ‘bout you?”

“My back’s kind of sore,” he said with a grin.

“I’m sorry baby; I just get really into the game.” When she was done eating she fed Scott and put him down for a nap. Nik had gone to hang out with Erin and Sam which left Miriya and Jordan with the house to themselves. Jordan came into the living room from the kitchen and sat down on the floor in front of Miriya. She instinctively began to massage his back causing a wide grin to come to his face.

“So what do you have planned for today?” he asked.

“Absolutely nothing, oh shit I don’t have anything to wear to the first game and it’s in two days.”

“Well, when was the last time you hung out with Cassie and Michelle?” he paused. “And not with the guys, just the three of you?”

“Really I can’t remember.”
“When you’re done you should call them and got get some work clothes.”

“Okay,” she said running her hand down his arm and taking his hand. She led him to the bedroom where he quickly ditched his shirt and jumped onto the bed. Before she started again she noticed the tennis ball sized bruise. “Aw baby, I really hurt you, I’m sorry.” She gently kissed the bruise and began to work his tense muscles. After about fifteen minutes his breathing had evened out and she knew that he was asleep. She gently kissed his cheek and slid off the bed trying not to wake him. After calling her best friends she quickly wrote down a note and put it on the bedside table.

Hope you have a good sleep babe. I’m with Cass and Chelle and Scotty is with us. I’m not sure when Nik will be home but I’m sure you guys can handle dinner on your own.
I love you baby, see you tonight.
Miriya.

Taking Scott from his crib after changing into a pair of jeans and a random RBK hat she made her way to the car. Because it was relatively close the girls chose to meet at Ross Park Mall.

“Hey Mir, you ready for the game in two days?” Michelle asked.

“I don’t know, I know it’s only pre-season but I’m still really nervous.

“Miriya come on, you’ve been watching hockey for twenty-four years, you know everything there is to know. You’ll be fine.”

“Thanks Cass, let’s go find some clothes.” They walked through the mall for an hour finding about five outfits and trying them on. “Okay, what do you think of this for Saturday’s game?” Miriya asked walking out of the changing room in a pair of black dress pants and a three-quarter sleeve, light blue blouse.

“The Devils aren’t going to be able to concentrate on the puck,” Michelle stated with a smile. “You look amazing.”

"So I’ll get the pants and a few other blouses. Now I need to pick out which of these suits look good, or more importantly fit.”

In total Miriya ended up with three suits, two other pairs of dress pants and five blouses. Once they had paid for the outfits they made their way to the food court. “Chinese?” Cassie asked.

“Sounds good to me,” Miriya looked over at the line at the Chinese place. “Scott’s starting to get fussy, can you guys get me something so I can feed him?”

“No problem, general Tso’s right?” Michelle asked.

Miriya nodded and went to the bathroom so she wouldn’t disturb anyone. Scott ate quickly and they made it back to the table just as Michelle and Cassie were getting back with the food. When they had finished eating they helped Miriya with her bags, and then went their separate ways. “Hey baby,” Jordan said when she walked in the front door. “Get anything good today?”

“Yeah, can you get the last two bags from my trunk?”

“Hey babe what are you doing?” Jordan asked later that night.

“Just looking at pictures from when Scott was born.”

“Can I join you?” She nodded and patted the spot on the couch next to her. She turned back to the beginning of the album and the first picture was of Miriya, her hair still a mess, holding her newborn son. There was a picture of Miriya kissing his cheek, one of Jordan and Scott, and every member of the team had their own picture. When they got to the picture of Hal Miriya stopped.

“Aw Hal, my Harold Priestly Gill III, I’m sad I don’t get to coach him.” She stared at the picture in which you could barely see Scott, Hal was so tall. “I miss my teddy bear.”

“I miss him too. Oh, are you making the first cuts tomorrow?”

“Yep, I’m pretty sure you’re gonna make the team,” she said with a smile.

The next morning Miriya woke up and made breakfast while she waited for the rest of the family to wake up. Just as she was walking into the living room with Scotty, Nik and Jordan stumbled in too.

“Morning baby, breakfast is on the table. I’m going in early to finish thinking about whose getting cut.”

“Okay baby, I’ll see you at the arena in about an hour.” He kissed her cheek before she made her way to the door.

All of the boys pulled into the parking lot, including Jordan and Nik in his brand new black Porsche. “I love your new car,” a girl who looked to be about nineteen said. “It’s sexy, just like you.” Jordan couldn’t help but giggle at this while he walked towards the entrance. “Oh my god I made Jordan Staal giggle,” she said to anyone who would listen. Jordan rolled his eyes, but of course the girl didn’t see. “Hi Nik.” Nik waved causing the girl to freak out even more.

Staal [A Jordan Staaal Story] Fifty-Eight

How 'bout them Pens?!?! What an amazing win against the Isles yesterday, I'm so glad that I was there. One more game before the start of the playoffs, I'm excited. But on with the story, thank you all so much for reading all of my stories. Continue to spread the word and comment. =]

Fifty-Eight

Cassie and Geno sat at home watching TV when Nathan started to cry. "I'll get him." Cassie got up off the couch and went to Nathan's room. While she was on her way there the crying stopped. She walked into the room to find him lying in his crib with a wide smile on his face. "Geno, come see your son."

With a week left before training camp Miriya had some friends over for dinner. Sid, Michelle, Nik, Erin, Colby, Mel, Cassie, Geno, Ryan, and Deb all sat at the dinning room table while Jamie and Jess sat at the coffee table, and Scott, Christiano, and Nathan sat in their car seats.

"Guys," Michelle said. "I have syphilis."

Miriya got up and while practically running to the kitchen said, "She's too young!"

Colby let out a small giggle as everyone at the table stared at him; however Sidney and Mel's stares were more like glares. "Colby?" Sid asked.

"You better stick 'em all because I know I have," Miriya yelled from the kitchen.
Everyone finally caught on to the movie reference and laughed, Miriya came back to the dinning room and everyone finished eating.

September fourteenth rolled around and with it came the start of training camp. Miriya was as nervous as the rest of the rookies; it was her first time doing anything as the team's head coach. "Baby you'll do fine," Jordan said as they got ready that morning. All of the boys believe in you and if any rookies give you a hard time just show 'em whose boss."

"I'll just send them down to Wilkes-Barre," she said with a laugh.

"There you go, let's get outta here." He picked up Scott's car seat and went out to the living room.

Miriya walked out of the bed room in a black Guins t-shirt, black track pants, a new pair of white Nikes and a black, light weight Guins jacket. "Good morning coach," Nik said when her foot hit the carpet in the living room.

“Morning, we’re gonna have to establish when and where I’m to be called coach.”

Jordan couldn’t help but smile. “Nik are you coming with us or taking your car?”

“If its okay with you guys, I’ll go with you.”

“Kay, we’re taking my ‘Stang so you’ll be in the back with Scotty.”

After grabbing a thing of Pop-tarts Miriya made her way out to the car and they were soon off to the arena. When they pulled into the parking lot there was a crowd of people waiting for doors to open for practice. A combination of “Nik, Gronk, Jordan, Staalsy, Coach Staal and Hey look there’s Scotty,” was heard from around the family as they made their way to the door.

None of the players had arrived yet so Miriya went to the lounge to get a bottle of water to try and calm her nerves. Cassie came in from the locker room and sat down on the couch next to her. “Hey coach.” Miriya nodded. “You ready?”

“About as ready as I’m going to be.” Just then Erin and Brooke walked in. “Hey girls.”
“Hey,” Erin said. “Is Scotty ready?”

“Yeah, thank you for watching him.”

“No problem.”

“This is my stall.” “Shut up!” “You guys are gonna piss off the coach on the first day.”

“Looks like they’re here,” she said standing from the couch. She went to both locker rooms saying, “Suit up and be on the ice in fifteen minutes.” She then went and waited on the bench until all of the guys took the ice. She then blew the whistle to get everyone’s attention. “Okay boys, welcome to training camp. Don’t think that because I’m your friend that I’ll go easy on you. You’re going to work hard and if you’re not performing at the level you should be then you’ll be on your way to Wilkes-Barre. If you cooperate practices will be easier and in turn games will be more easily won. If you have good chemistry on a line you will get good passes which lead to good shots, and good lead to goals and finally wins. We’re going to divide you into two teams and everyone needs to stretch, we’re going to be running some ability drills.”

Everyone was divided into teams and one team went to the locker room to do physicals with Michelle. The remaining team stood on the ice and awaited their instructions. “Speed,” Miriya said. “Without it there would be no game. You need it to beat your opponent to his net, to beat the goalie, to get back to your own end on time. We’re going to do two speed drills; the first, of which I know you all hate, but it’s a good warm-up and good for building speed.” Everyone groaned. “So on the goal line.”

Suicides went better than Miriya had initially expected, when everyone returned to the goal line for the final time some of them were even smiling. “Alright boys, well done. Now we’re going blue line to blue line, on my whistle.” That drill went well too.

“Now its time for agility. You must be agile to get through defenders,” she said with a smile. “I’ll give you a few minutes to get some water while I set up the course.”

A row of cones was set up in the neutral zone awaiting the guys to finish their water. “All you have to do is skate through the cones.” As was expected everyone did so with ease. “Quite simple, eh? Now you’re going to have to do it again, but this time with this.” She pulled a brand new puck from her pocket.

“Basically you want us to stick handle?” A tall blonde rookie asked.

“Yes, I want you to stick handle. But if you lose control of the puck you must go back to the end of the line and do it again until you get through without losing the puck. After you make it through go to the locker room for your physicals. Teams A and B will scrimmage today. Everyone form a line and grab a puck.”

Once everyone had made it through the course the other team took the ice. “Alright boys we’re going to work on speed…” She went through the entire thing with the other two teams.

After a short scrimmage was held she kept everyone on the ice for a few more minutes.
“Tomorrow we work on stick handling, passing and shooting. Be ready to work! For now hit the showers, I’ll see you bright and early.” As everyone cleared the ice she grabbed a stick from the bench. She also picked up a few pucks before dropping them to the ice. Letting slap shots rip from the point, everyone hitting the back of the net.

“Hey coach,” someone said from behind her.

“Yeah?” she asked as Jordan spun her around.

“You did amazing for you’re first day.”

“Thanks babe.” She kissed his cheek.

“Let’s go get Scotty and Nik, and go home.”

She smiled as she picked up all the pucks she had used and took them to the locker room which was now quite and empty. “Hey Scotty,” she said taking him from Nik. “Let’s go home.”

“So Nik how was training camp not being a rookie?” Miriya asked at dinner that night.

“Good coach,” a toothy grin appeared. “Seriously I’m not as nervous as last year. Don’t get me wrong Staalsy; I’m still scared that I could get cut and end up in WBS.”

“I’m a fair coach,” she said with a smile. “You work hard ad you’ll make the team.”

The next morning she stepped out onto the ice and smiled as the chill hit her face. No one else was there and no one would be for a least an hour, she was going to take advantage of her time alone. She loved the way that the ice felt beneath her skates, smooth and crisp, no one had been on it sine it was cleaned the night before. After working on her cross-overs for a while she heard talking in the locker room and took her spot on the bench.

Surprisingly the boys had followed her instructions that had been posted in the locker room. Team A was to come out to practice first before scrimmaging against team B. After a few quick laps and stretching everyone lined up to work on passing which was followed by defense. Shooting came next and then more laps and stretching.

The ice was cleaned and it was soon time for the scrimmage. Both teams hit the ice and were ready for the drop of the puck. The white team, team A was up by one at the end of the second fifteen minute period and went to the locker room so that the ice could be cleaned again.

“We will not be coming to the arena tomorrow,” as Miriya said this she received some questioning looks. “We will be training however, working on hand-eye coordination. We will be meeting at St. Sebastian’s school gym in the North Hills at nine am. For now, get out there and practice hard.”

Everyone filled back out to the ice where the white team won the scrimmage. Team B had a good practice, successfully running all of their drills. As it was coming to an end some players threw pucks over the glass to people in the crowd. One girl, who looked to be about seven, had been cheering for Jordan all practice and he took notice. He pulled a sharpie from the bench, signed his stick, and handed it through the glass to the little girl.

“Thank you Jordan. Mommy, mommy, Jordan gave me his stick!” She was practically jumping up and down with the stick that was twice as tall as she was.

“You made her so happy,” Miriya said skating up behind him. “I wish a player would have given me their stick when I was younger.”

“Well I’m all out of sticks, but how about a puck?” He picked up a puck from the ice and signed it in silver sharpie.

“Thank you Mr. Staal,” she said as he placed the puck in her hand. “I’ll cherish it forever.”

“You two are so lame.”

Miriya turned around to see Max skating by, trying to look innocent. “I’d watch who you’re saying that to Max, I have the power to send you to the minors.”

Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-Seven

“Happy anniversary baby,” Jordan said walking into the bedroom with breakfast on the morning of August seventeenth.

“You too, two years,” she said with a smile.

“You ready for the trip tomorrow?”

“Yep, I just need to finish packing Scott’s stuff.

The next day everything was packed up, Miriya, Jordan, Scott, Michelle, Sid, and Christiano waited for Colby, Mel, and Jamie to show up. Finally they pulled up and Miriya and Jordan pilled their stuff into the car as neatly as possible. After checking to make sure the front door was locked everyone got into their cars and was on their way.

“Daddy are we there yet?” Jamie asked after about twenty minutes in the car. “No.”

“Are we there yet?”

“No.”

“Are we there yet?”

“No Jamie you’ll know when we get there, just watch the movie.”

“Army?”

“Yea Staalsy?”

“Are we there yet?”

“Actually yes,” he said as they pulled onto the gravel road that led back to Jordan and Miriya’s cabin.

It was an old cabin, but was very nice. The outside was logs and had a decent sized front porch with wooden rocking chairs. There were two bedrooms, but three king sized beds, and the couches in the living room also folded into beds. Outside the back door was a fire pit and a rocky path that lead through the pine trees to the lake. At the lack there was a sandy beach and a few chairs made from smooth rocks. Basically the cabin and the surrounding area was beautiful.

“Mommy I wanna to the lake,” Jamie said pulling on her hand.

“Colby you do want to take your son to the lake?”

“Sure, Jamie go put your swim trunks on.” Jamie ran to the bathroom to change.

“Guys you wanna take the boys down and they can splash in the water a little?” Miriya asked.

“Sure,” Sid said looking over to the boys.

“Be careful baby,” Miriya said hugging Jordan.

“I always am,” he kissed her than picked up his son and started down to the lake with Sid and Colby, Jamie was running ahead of them.

“How long you think they’ll be down there?” Michelle asked.

“Knowing Jamie, a couple of hours,” Mel replied.

“Who wants to get the fire wood?” Michelle asked.

“I’ll do it and set up the fire if you guys want to start cutting the vegetables and stuff.”

“Alright, don’t get lost in the woods,” she said with a laugh.

“Thanks Chelle, I’ll try.

Miriya made her way to the woods path and took a moment to take in the scent of the woods. The path wasn’t completely cleared so every few steps there was a crunch of snap as a twig broke up her foot. After a bout five minutes she came upon a fallen tree and started to chop it into reasonably sized pieces for fire wood. Once it was piled by the fire pit and a decent sized fire built she went into side to help wrap dinner in foil.

As she was taking the last foil ball out of the low fire the boys were coming up the path from the lake. “Jamie go wash your hands!” Colby yelled ahead.

Jamie ran into the cabin. Army put his arm around Mel and in a whisper asked, “Do you want to tell them tonight?”

“Sure,” she said with a smile, “After dinner when we’re just sitting by the fire.”

Dinner was finished and everyone sat around the camp fire talking about everything from the upcoming season to when Miriya and Michelle were in high school. “So guys,” Colby said with a smile.

“We’re gonna have another baby, Jamie you’re going to be a big brother.”

“Arms, Mel I’m so happy for you!” Miriya said standing to hug them. “When did you find out?”

“This morning, I’m a month along. I’m due in late May.”

“Mommy, can I have a marshmallow?”

“Sure Jamie,” she pulled one from the bag, placing it on a stick and handed it to him.

The next morning Jamie woke up to fine pancakes with HAPPY BIRTHDAY written in whipped cream. A smile came to his face as he sat down at the table. “Happy Birthday Jamie!”

Thanks again guys, Mel I know you just don’t like the lake, but Colbs I’ll make it up to you later.”

“Really Staalsy, its fine.”

“No Arms, you take care of Scott so much I’ll make it up to you.”

“Are the boats down by the lake already?” Michelle asked.

“Yep,” Sid said putting his arm around her.

They got down to the beach and there sat two blue kayaks. After putting their life jackets on everyone pushed the boats into the water and jumped in.

“Left, right, left, right, there you go Michelle… bye boys!”

“Kayaking in high school was so much fun.”

“There was that one time junior year they let us go twice in one week.”

“Oh CAPA gym class, good times.”

“There were some good times, that time they tried to make us run to the point, ha."

SPLASH! Sid and Jordan’s boat flipped. Miriya and Michelle made their way over to try to help them. “One, two, three!” And the girls fell out of their boat and into the water.

“Sorry girls couldn’t resist,” Sid said putting the paddles into the boats.

“It’s fine, I would have done the same thing,” Michelle sawn closer to Sid and ran her fingers through his wet curls.

“I love this lake,” Miriya said running her fingers through Jordan’s hair.

“I love you.” He ran his hand along her cheek and his lips met hers.

They spent a little longer swimming and then got back into the boats and kayaked up and down the lake a few times. Having lost track of time they made it back to the cabin around six. Michelle, Sidney and Jordan all showered before sitting down for dinner. Miriya figured that since she would be kayaking with Army later she wouldn’t bother to shower just yet. Dinner was finished around seven, Miriya kissed Jordan, Colby kissed Mel and then they made their way down to the lake.

“Ready?”

“Yep, just so you know you’re getting into a boat with me so this may not turn out so well.”

“Well then we better but our life jackets on, huh?” she asked with a laugh.

Once their life jackets were on they pushed their boat into the water and got in. Everything was in and they watched the sun set. They looked off at the beautiful mix of yellow, red, orange, and purple and with one wrong move by Colby they were in the water. “The second time today,” Miriya said with a laugh.

“Sorry, well while we’re here you wanna swim?”

“Sure.”

The sun was completely gone and had been replaced by the moon when they decided to get back in the boat. Miriya put her seat down so that see could go sit in the back with Colby. They stared at the moon as they sat in the center of the lake. “Arms?

“Staals, you ready to coach this year?”

“I think so, I’m kind of nervous. I mean I’ve been doing coach like things for as long as I can remember, but games never depended on my line combinations.”

“I’ve seen some of your stuff and it Shero thinks you’ve got what it takes then you’ll be fine. All of the guys believe in you.”

“Thanks Arms.”

They made their way back to shore and up to the cabin. Colby pulled her into a hug and she couldn’t help but smile. “Thanks Colby, I really appreciate everything you do for me, and for Jordan.” She kissed him on the cheek, in a friendly way and turned to go to the bedroom.
“Goodnight Army.”

“Night Staalsy.”

“You smell like lake,” Jordan said when she walked into the bedroom.

“Colbs and I fell in.” She sat down next to him. “So I’m gonna shower.” She slowly got up off of the bed and headed to the bathroom. Once the water was at the perfect temperature Jordan’s strong arms wrapped around her from behind. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he spun her around and hips lips found hers for a passionate kiss.

“Could you guys have been any louder last night?” Colby asked at breakfast the next morning.

“First of all it’s my cabin,” Miriya stated with a smile. “And yes we probably could have.”

After a week had passed everyone packed p and hit the road. They had left around six after one last trip down to the lake and stopped at Cracker Barrel for dinner on the way home.
“Thanks guys, I had a good time.”

“No problem Colbs, thanks for the ride.”

“No problem Staalsy, see ya.”

They hauled their stuff into the living room where they found a familiar face.

“Hey guys.”

“Nik!” Miriya said and threw her arms around him.

“Coach, how are you?”

“The season hasn’t started yet and we’re at home, I’m still Staalsy.”

Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-Six

Hey everyone! My band's gig is over and went really well last night! As for school, it's getting closer and closer to the end, thank God, but I still have a lot to do. As for my boys, they're moving up in the standings and I'm so proud of all of them. I can't wait to play Colby and Johan on Tuesday! =] My Fleury story is coming along, but I'm still pretty far from being ready to put it up. When I am though I'll let you all know. As for Jordan, here's a new chapter that I hope you all enjoy. Comments are greatly appreciated!

Fifty-Six

“Baby why am I cleaning the house if you boys are just gonna mess it up tonight?”

“No idea, but we should get going so we can make it to the rehearsal.”

After wrapping up the vacuum cord Miriya grabbed her keys and headed to the car with Jordan. Once they pulled out of their driveway Jordan’s strong hand was on Miriya’s on the gear shift. Twenty minutes later they pulled into the familiar parking lot and walked into the towering church that was St. Sebastian’s. “Hello Miriya.”

“Hi Father, you remember my husband Jordan.”

“Good to see you father,” he shook Father Jim’s hand firmly.

“Ah and the happy couple, Jared, Andrea; are you two ready for the big day?”

“About as ready as I’m going to be,” a smile came to Andrea’s face.

Father laughed lightly, “Shall we start then?”

They ran through the ceremony as it would go the next day, and then made their way to the restaurant for the dinner part of the rehearsal. “Well I don’t want to give any hints on my speech for tomorrow, but Jared not only as your best man, but as your brother; congratulations on finding someone who makes you happy. Here’s to my little brother Jared and his girl.”

As dinner ended everyone filed out of the restaurant and to their cars. Miriya kissed Jordan good-bye before getting into Michelle’s car with Cassie, Leah, and Tanya to go to the party. The party went well, both parties that is, and as is to be expected there was mild drinking.

The morning of the big day came and all of the girls got ready at Michelle’s house. “Miriya, where’s Scotty?” Andrea asked at about nine-thirty while all the girls were doing their hair and make-up.

“He’s at my mom’s; I’m getting him tonight after the reception.”

One o’clock came and everyone awaited the start of the service. Father Jim walked up to the alter with the alter servers who were followed by the groom’s men; Eric, Marc, Sid, Zach Parise, Marty Brodeur, Geno, Colby, and Jared’s best man Jordan. They all stood waiting and looking very handsome in their tuxes. Those tuxes had black jackets, pants, shoes and vest, a white shirt and light blue ties; along with all of these each of the guys had a white rose boutonnière.

The girls anxiously waited in the back of the church until it was there time to walk down the aisle. Cassie, Michelle, Leah, Tanya, Jamie, Beth, Rachel, and the maid of honor, Miriya, slowly walked to the front of the church. They all looked beautiful in light blue, mid-shin, v-neck, spaghetti strap dresses, and each girl had a small bouquet of white roses.

Following the bride’s maids were the flower-girl and ring-bear, Adam and Amanda. Amanda scattered white rose petals down the aisle while Adam carried the rings on a small white, silk pillow. Once the two had made it three-quarters of the way down the aisle the music started and Andrea and her father started down the aisle. She looked absolutely beautiful and Jared couldn't hold back a smile at the front of the church. Her floor-length gown was the same shade as the bride’s maid’s dresses as was the vial that ended just below her shoulders. Her make-up was light as usual, but suited her well, and her dark brown was pulled into a gentle half-ponytail, and all of her hair was in gentle curls.

When she made it to the end of the long aisle her father handed her over to Jared, and hand in hand they walked up the step to the alter, and Father started. When it came time for the vows Andrea spoke first. “Your smile alone sends shivers down my spine. Your touch and kiss send sparks throughout my entire body. From the moment I saw you when you were drafted by the Devils I knew there was something special about you. It wasn’t that you were the fourth Staal brother to make it to the NHL, really it had nothing to do with hockey at all, and I just knew that you were special. When I met you I knew that there was something between us, I’m so glad I’m with you, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you Jared Michael Staal, and I always will.”

A smile came to Jared’s face before he spoke, “Being drafted was the absolute best day of my life, I couldn’t ask for more at that point, that was all that mattered. I was so wrong because you came along and changed my life. You would look at me and me, a professional hockey player would melt like the ice under my skates. My brothers taught me a lot over the years, but nothing could have prepared me for the feelings I have for you. You can’t even begin to understand how much I love you, how much I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you, how fantastic you make waking in the morning; even though I really don’t want to. Andrea Lauren Bates marrying you definitely beats my draft.” A huge smile was on both Andrea and Jared’s faces, but also all of the Staals, to include Miriya, Leah, and Tanya.

“Do you Jared take Andrea to be your wife…?”

“I do,” he said and somehow his smile grew.

“Do you Andrea take Jared to be your husband…?”

“I do,” a slight tear came to her eye, but she held it back.

“…May now kiss the bride.” Jared held Andrea’s hands tightly and took a step closer to her. His lips closed down on hers in a passionate kiss from which they quickly pulled away with smiles on their faces.

After pictures everyone went to the reception which was being held where Cassie and Geno had theirs, Blueberry Hill Park. It was set up like the Malkin and Staal’s reception’ candle lit, with many circular tables covered in light blue clothes. There were no chair covers, keeping it semi-low key, there was a friend DJing, and there were blue streamers hanging decoratively from the ceiling. The bridal party sat at a long table facing away from the window with two empty chairs in the middle for the bride and groom.

“Please welcome for the first time Mr. and Mrs. Jared Staal.” Everyone applauded as the happy couple made their way hand in hand to the center of the dance floor. Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith started, Andrea looked into Jared’s eyes and smiled as they started to dance. A few couples made their way to the floor, mostly Devils’ players with their wives and/or girlfriends.

“Babe you wanna dance?” Jordan asked grabbing Miriya’s hand that rested on her thigh.

“Sure,” they made their to the dance floor, Jordan’s hands went to Miriya’s hip, hers to his neck, and her head rested against his chest.

When the song ended everyone returned to their seats and through the buffet line to get dinner.

Miriya and Jordan went to the DJ’s table after putting their forks down and picked up the microphones. “Jared and I have known each other for a very long time. Sure we fought as kids on and off the ice, now we just fight every once in a while at the face-off dot. I don’t remember any times were we got in trouble together, but don’t get me wrong I’m sure there were some. As we got older we got closer and now seeing my little brother so happy, and all because of girl lets me know that he did something right.” Everyone let out a giggle at this. “This leads me to Andrea, from what I can tell you are an amazing girl who makes my brother happier than anything else. You are one of my wife’s best friends and now you really are part of the family. When you two look at each other there’s a sparkle in your eye and a gleam in your smile. I hope you guys can stay this happy forever. Congratulations guys, I love you, and Andrea welcome to the family.”

“Wow Jordan pretty much summed it up, let’s see what I can do; it’s gonna be hard to follow that.,” she paused, took a breath, and started her speech. “Jared and I go way back, I think it was eight years ago that we met on the family farm. I will never forget him asking if I had met mom yet. Well Jared you may be older than me, though not by much, and you’re definitely taller than me, but you will always be little Jay. Andrea and I met when Jordan and I were at a game in Jersey and we got along great. She’s one of my best friends and I’m glad that she found such a great guy who makes her so happy. I love you guys and am so glad you two are together. Congratulations.”

Once the guests were finished with their dinner they made their way to the side table which held cookies and other baked goods. Also on the table sat the beautiful cake, it wasn’t anything too extravagant but was three tier, with white icing and a bride and groom on top.

“Little Jay?” Andrea asked Miriya after sitting down.

She smirked before answering, “The only reason I call him little Jay is because he’s younger than Jordan and Jordan is big Jay. But let me assure you, if he’s anything like his older brother you have nothing to worry about.” Andrea looked over to Jared whose face now held a wide grin, causing her to smile.

Once the party had cleared out the happy couple made their way to the airport. They reached their destination in Glasgow, Scotland that afternoon. This was inspired by the stories of Miriya and Jordan’s when they came back from their honeymoon and its pure beauty. Upon their arrival they dropped their bags at their hotel in Edinburgh then found somewhere to get something to eat.

They walked the Royal Mile and stood at an overlook. Andrea shivered slightly and Jared’s grip tightened. “You wanna head back?”

“Sure.”

They went back to the hotel and Andrea jumped into the warm shower. She had just walked into the bedroom and sat down on the bed next to Jared. He ran his hand up her smooth leg but she grabbed his hand to stop him. “Baby, I just showered.”

“And we’re on our honeymoon in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We should be having… fun,” he said with a wink.

“You’re almost as bad as your brother.”

“Which one?” he asked with a laugh.

“I was thinking Jordan, but now that I think about it all you Staals are very… driven,” she tried to hold back a laugh but a giggle escaped her lips.

“Really, you think so Mrs. Staal?” She nodded and then moved onto his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck. Her lips were inches from his when he asked, “Given in, eh?”

“Mhm,” her lips pressed against his. She ran her hands to his chest and them there as she briefly pulled away. A smile came to her face but a few seconds later Jared’s lips were pressed firmly against hers. Her shirt was the first to make it to the floor shortly followed by his. Not much later his jeans and the boxers she was wearing as shorts landed somewhere in the room. She let out a small moan as Jared placed kisses on her neck and reached back to unhook her bra. Eventually that and everything else landed somewhere around the room. “Jared!” she screamed loud enough for the entire hotel to hear.

“Shh,” he said placing his finger to her lips.

“No, I’ve waited so long to be with you and I want everyone to know how happy I am.”

Jared smiled and pressed his lips to hers.

Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-Five

Hey guys, life is getting less busy, thank god, I hope it stays that way. As I said I'm writing a Fleury story and it's still in the early stages, so look for the in the next month.

The Pens game last night scared me a little, I still don't know what to think of Chris Kunitz, and I miss Ryan Whitney... A LOT! For those of you who don't know I'm a Hawks fans as well so I'm proud of Jonny Toews. Congrats Jonny on your first NHL hat-trick, too bad it had to come against us.

I hope you all enjoy the chapter, comments are greatly appreciated.

Fifty-Five

“What do you name your child?” the priest asked as the close family stood at the baptismal font.
“Scott Patrick,” Miriya replied.

Next Cassie and Geno, who were to be the godparents, had to promise to lead Scott in the right direction and take care of him if anything were to happen to his real parents. “The father, the son, and the holy spirit,” he said making the sign of the cross on Scott’s forehead.

Christiano was also baptized that day, Miriya and Jordan being the godparents, then it was back to Miriya and Jordan’s for the party. As always there was plenty of food and lots of fun. Miriya and Jordan’s family were there which includes Cassie, Geno, Nathan, Sid, Michelle, and Christiano. Michelle and Sid’s families were also there, since it was Christiano’s party too.

At about two the house phone rang and a familiar voice was on the other end. “Nik, how are you?”

“I’m good, sorry I couldn’t come back for the party today. Tell Scott I say hi and give him a hug for me.”

“I will.”

“And tell everyone that I say hi and miss them. Erin’s here to visit so I’m gonna go”

“Okay, tell her I say hi. See you next month.” They both hung up and Miriya got everyone to shut up. “I just talked to Nik, he says hi and that he misses everyone. And he’ll be back in a month.”

Everyone went back to partying and Miriya decided to put Scott down for a nap and change into her bathing suit. Some of the other guest had also decided to swim. “So Mir, we’re still on for slip ‘n sliding on Friday, right?” Michelle asked.

“Pretty sure, hey Ryan would you want to come?”

“Um, slip ‘n sliding, like in someone’s backyard, aren’t we a little old for that?”

“One, you are never too old to slip ‘n slide,” Miriya said. “And two not in someone’s backyard, a bunch of us are going down to the arena and are gonna…”

“Wait, you’re going slip ‘n sliding in the arena?”

“She is the coach,” Michelle said.

“Sure,” Ryan said with a laugh. “I guess I’ll be there, what time?”

“Noon.”

Once everyone was gone, except for Jordan’s family, Miriya and Jordan cleaned up while Marc and his wife Leah took care of Scott. Marc was doing most of the playing with the baby since Leah’s plump stomach got in the way. “Marc you’re so good with Scott,” Miriya said sitting down.

“It’s a thing he’s good with kids huh?” Eric asked.

“Yes it is,” he said rubbing his wife’s stomach.

“Three down, one to go.” Henry, daddy Staal said with a laugh.

“Yea, Jared you’re the only one left,” Jordan said.

“Hey, I’m not even married yet, give me some time.”

“Couple more weeks right?” Linda asked.

“Yep,” Andrea, Jared’s fiancée said with a smile and rested her head on Jared’s shoulder.

Friday finally came, but not quickly enough. Miriya and Michelle had had this planned for months but obviously couldn’t do it while the three girls were pregnant. So the third Friday in July finally came, little kids were at grandparent’s houses and the big kids were waiting outside the arena.

“The only time they lock the door,” Miriya said trying to find the right key. “You guys know they never lock the door, not even during games.” She finally found the key and everyone went down the long hallway to the locker room. Michelle went to the training room to get the speakers she had left there and Cassie went to the Equipment room to get garbage bags.

“What are those for?” Colby asked.

“Do you really want to slide on just the ice?”

“Sure,” he said flashing his signature grin. After everyone had stripped down to their bathing suits and Michelle’s iPod was hooked up to the speakers Colby decided to slide first. He started from the goal line and flopped down to the ice at about the blue line. When he stopped he pried himself from the ice to reveal a stomach as red as a tomato. Slowly he made his way to the bench where everyone else stood. “I think I’ll take one of those garbage bags,” this caused everyone to laugh.

Some of the guys decided to get competitive and see who could slide the furthest. No one blamed them; after all they are professional athletes who hadn’t been on the ice in three months. The girls and Ryan slid just for the fun of it and enjoyed watching Sid, Geno, Colby, and Jordan “race”.

After a while ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ came on and everyone looked at Miriya. It was here song and it needed to be played if the Guins were losing otherwise there was no hope of a comeback. When the intense rendition of Journey’s song was over Natasha Benningfield’s ‘Unwritten’ came on and Colby stood at center ice singing. Everyone laughed as Michelle went to sing with him. Everyone along the boards clapped when the song ended before sliding a few more times.

“Do any of you boys wanna skate?” Everyone was silent. “Okay, as your coach I’m telling you that you’re gonna go change and put your skates on. I know none of you have started training yet.” The four Guins hurried to the locker room, Michelle, Cassie, and Mel followed to put their skates on too. “Ryan you wanna skate?”

“I don’t have skates with me.”

“You’re in a hockey arena, I’m sure we can find you a pair.” She said with a laugh. “Cass, can you hook Ryan up with a pair of skates?”

“I’m sure we can find some.”

Once everyone was changed and laced up they headed back out to the ice. Since they had just walked on it in tennis shoes it was still glassy smooth and felt good under Miriya’s skates as she stepped out from the runway. She let the arena take her thoughts as she glided down the ice; she loved the atmosphere of the arena, she felt at home there, even more than at her own home. She breathed in the scent and smiled, it mostly smelt of ice, yes ice has a smell. She loved the smell more than anything, anything other than the way Mellon Arena smelt. There was a very slight difference between the way the two arenas smelt, so slight that many people didn’t even notice, Miriya on the other hand did.

She past the bench for the second time and sped up, still not going full speed, but pretty fast by most standards. After three laps she decided that she should stretch before she got hurt. Rounding the ice a few more times she stepped behind the crease and looked up at the stands. “MIRYA!” a voice called down the ice pulling her from her thoughts.

“RYAN!” she said turning around. Everyone was skating and have a good time, and continued to do so for about an hour and a half before heading to the locker room.

“Bye Miriya, thanks for inviting me. We should hang out more often.”

“We should, well during the season a bunch of us get together for movie nights on Fridays, you and Deb should come, and you can bring Jess.”

“Alright, let me know when and I’ll try my best to be there.”

“See ya best friend,” she said giving him a hug.

“Bye.”

Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-four

I'm home sick so I thought I would treat you guys to a new chapter. I know it's a short one compared to my usual chapters but I'm sure that's better for you guys. =] I know also know that this is a cliffhanger, but that's how "Haley" wanted it. It leaves it open to the imagination. I hope you guys enjoy the chapter and feedback is greatly appreciated.

Fifty-four

"I'm so glad they decided to have the wedding in Pittsburgh and not Chicago," Miriya said to Jordan as they got into bed the night before the wedding.

"Me too, I've enjoyed not flying anywhere since the season ended."

"No flying until training camp. Thank God your family's coming here for Scott's baptism so we don't have to worry about going to Canada."

"I'm glad that's next week, we can finally get you grandma off our back. 'When are you gonna get that baby baptized?' I'm sorry but she gets annoying after a while."
"A while, really babe?"

"I don't wanna talk about it," he said with a laugh.

The next day Miriya made sure that everything was packed for Scott's 'sleepover' with Nathan at Aunt Cassie's. After the two minute drive to her best friend's house Miriya took Scotty from his car seat and walked with Jordan to the front door. "Hey guys," Geno said opening the door. "Cassie's asleep; Nathan kept her up all night."
"I remember those days, the first two weeks I barely slept except for pre-game naps," Jordan said.

"Yea, he's so cute when he's not crying though."

"That how they all are," Miriya said with a laugh. "Well Scotty, Mommy and Daddy have to go, but you be a good boy for Aunt Cassie and Uncle Geno."

"Thanks again," Jordan said handing the diaper bag to Geno.

They arrived at the church at around five and found a seat in the middle of the left side. The entire row in front of them was filled with Hawks and their hatred for the Guins had at least lightened since they talked to Miriya and Jordan until right before the service started. Miriya looked around the church at the neatly placed red roses and white cloth that had been placed in the center aisle and led to the alter.

The priest made his way to the front of the church followed by Patrick and the groom's men. All of the guys looked good in white tuxes with baby blue ties. Standing there calmly were Pat's teammates Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Brent Seabrook, Adam Burish, Patrick Sharp, and Jonathan Toews. Anastasia, Hollie, Amanda, and Carlee made their way down the aisle in baby blue, sleeveless, knee length dress with bouquets of red roses.

Jacob the ring bearer and Abby the flower girl made their way slowly down the aisle. Red rose petals gracefully fell to the white cloth up until the aisle where Jacob and Abby found their seats.

Everyone stood as the music started and Haley came down the aisle with her dad. He handed her over to Patrick and went to his seat as they both smiled. They went to the first step and the ceremony started with, "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today…"

When it came time for the vows Pat spoke first, "Haley, you are my best friend. You are the season I wake up each day. You are your own person and blow me away each and everyday. Your beauty and personality are why I wake up each day. I've always loved you and I promise to as much and more, forever."

She couldn't help but smile as she ran her hand down her silky white gown, the long train behind her. She looked into Pat's eyes as she started to speak, "Patrick, you helped me through the toughest times in my life and show me how to have the greatest. You are the only person I trust with my heart, you showed me how to love. Just know that I will always love you no matter what. You're my sweetest hello and hardest good-bye. Thankfully I won’t have to say good-bye, forever."

"Do you Patrick take Haley to be your wife…?"

"I do."

"Do you Haley take Patrick to be your husband…?"

"I do."

"…I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride."

They both smiled and their lips met as everyone in the church stood and applauded. Everyone filed out of the church and to the reception at the Hard Rock Café. As always the bridal party stayed behind for pictures, shortly thereafter they also made their way to the reception.

"Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kane."
After dinner and the first dance Miriya and Jordan made their way to the head table. "Congrats guys, thank you so much for inviting us," Miriya said.

"No problem, congrats on getting the coaching job. It's amazing, you've only been working for the Guins two years and already you've announced the Stanley Cup win against us and not are going to coach the greatest team in the league."

"But no pressure," Haley added.

"No, none at all."

"It's okay, she works well under pressure, you should see her on the ice."
"Thanks babe, well again Congrats guys."

They went back to their table and as they sat down a slow song came on. "Baby you wanna dance?" Jordan asked.

"Sure, why not." They went out onto the dance floor and Miriya rested her head against Jordan's chest. She listened to his steady heart beat and breathed in his scent; this of course causing her to smile. "Can you believe it baby, we've been married for almost two years."

"I know, it feels like only yesterday that we started going out."

"My heart still skips a beat when I see you," he kissed her cheek; she smiled and her heart sped up.

Haley and Pat left for the airport that night and went to Jamaica for their two week honeymoon. As soon as they got there they went to their hotel and closed the door…

Staal [A Jordan Staal Story] Fifty-Three

HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO!!! I would just like to wish the Steelers luck in the Super Bowl today. Kick some Cards ass!!!

Fity-three

The team sat silently for a moment before Colby spoke up, "Staalsy, we'd love for you to be coach. One question though, could we call you coach Staalsy?" Everyone laughed at this and looked questioningly at Colby. "No I`m being serious, could we call you coach Staalsy?"

"I`ll have to think about it Colbs."

"Okay coach."

"I`m not your coach yet. You have to finish off this playoff stint under Therrien and then you will be mine."

Later that night the boys showed up at the arena a little nervous of what could happen that night. However they pushed all thoughts of losing far from their minds when the sound of the crowd hit them as they went out for the pre-game skate.

"Well this is it until October folks, the Guins lose in five games to the Toronto Maple Leafs. You have to wonder if Therrien will be back for another season of if there will be a new face on the home bench next year."

"We'll find out soon enough Bourquey, goodnight ladies and gentlemen."

Once they were off the air Phil turned to Miriya, "So you gonna take it?"

"Yep, the guys want to call me coach Staalsy," she couldn't help but laugh at this. "All I have to do is tell Ray and the job is pretty much mine."

"Congrats Staalsy, you work so hard for this team. You made an amazing announcer and I`m sure you`ll make a great coach too, you've got the skills."

"Thanks Bourquey, these past two years have been great. I`ve loved working with you, but now I`ll be down there," she gestured towards the ice. "And not up here. I should go tell Ray I`m gonna take the job." She walked into the locker room just as reporters were walking out and general manager Ray Shero was walking in. Therrien who normally came in to talk to the boys at this point was nowhere to be seen. "Where's Mike?"

"He's cleaning out his office. I overhead the boys talking about you being coach and figured you were gonna take the job."

"He's not gonna wait until locker clean out day?"

"I guess not, hey guys!" The room fell silent again. "Meet next years coach."
Everyone's eyes lit up and smiles were on all of their faces. It was the happiest they had ever been after losing a playoff series. They could all feel that something good was going to happen in the coming season.

With Saturday came the day most dreaded by all hockey players, locker clean out day. It meant the season was over and you needed to find something to do until September. The room was empty within an hour, but the guys slapped on the skates for one last 'practice'. Cassie watched Scott and Christiano on the bench while Miriya and Michelle skated with the team.

It had only been a month since Scott was born but Miriya almost had her figure back. She had been working hard to slim down and gain more muscle, not that she needed it. Michelle had also been working to gain her figure back and just like Miriya seemed to be achieving her goal. Now Cassie on the other hand was seven months pregnant and seemed to be quite content sitting on the bench keeping an eye on the babies.

"I love thunder storms," Sid said as the rain poured down later that night.

"Mmhmm," Michelle said just before the thunder clashed. The sound made her jump closer to Sid.

He couldn't help but laugh as he tightened his grip around her. "I remember when I found out you were afraid of thunder."

"I don't, can you tell me?"

It was the first summer they were together, 2008, and it rained a lot that summer. Miriya and Jordan were still in Canada so Michelle was with Sid a lot. They were at his place of residence, otherwise known as Mario Lemieux`s house. They were watching a movie in the basement since their plans of a bike ride were ruined by the rain. Sid had grabbed a blanket and candles just in case.

"Megatron, that's what they call him," both Shia LeBeouf and Michelle said as the thunder clashed.

She jumped and Sid brought her closer. "I take it you're afraid of thunder?"

"Just a little," she jumped again as the storm moved closer. The TV went black and so did the room with another clash of thunder. With a stick of a match the room was filled with light again, along with the smell of fresh peaches.

"Okay I remember that day," she rested her head on his shoulder. Another clash of thunder came and of course she jumped.

At the Staal house Miriya and Jordan sat on the couch watching the storm through the kitchen door. Nik was playing with Scott on the floor. Outside the storm moved closer and as it did the thunder crashed louder. One crash seemed as though it was right above the house and Scott started to cry.

"Aww Scotty it's okay, come here sweetie," Miriya said getting up from the couch and taking Scott from Nik's arms.

The rest of April and May past, most of the team had stayed in Pittsburgh so they wouldn't have to come back for Miriya's birthday party or the birth of Cassie and Geno's first baby. As with every pregnancy no one knew exactly when the baby was going to be born, but she was due on June seventeenth, Miriya's mom's birthday. Just as Miriya and Michelle, Cassie wanted to be surprised when she had the baby, so she never found out the sex.

June came, and with it Miriya and Michelle were in the best shape of their lives. They went down to the arena to work-out every other day while Sid and Jordan watched the kids. On days they weren't working-out they watched the kids as Sid and Jordan took advantage of having the arena weight room.

After leaving the arena Miriya decided to stop at Giant Eagle in Waterworks to pick-up some groceries on the way home. Again she was looking at chips when she backed into someone. "I`m so sorry, this is the second time this has happened," she said turning around. "And both times I've known the people."

A smile came to the person's face. "Miriya Staal, the Penguins' announcer Miriya Staal?"

"Well Penguins' coach now, but how are you Ryan, I haven't seen you since that summer at Guyasuta."

"I know, I`ve been good, you?"

"Good, we really need to catch up, it's been too long."

"We should, when are you free?"

"I'm free tomorrow if you wanna come over for dinner."

"Okay, I`ll see you then." he gave her a hug and they both finished their shopping.

Miriya walked through the front door to find more people tan were there when she left. Then she remembered that it was movie night with "the guys". Only four of them were really guys, Sid, Geno, Nik and Jordan, unless Colby and Mel stopped by. Cassie, Michelle, and Erin were also there. They didn't get to have these much during the season because there was either a game or they were on the road and couldn't decide whose room to do it in.

Everyone showed up this time and they all waited for the pizza guy to arrive with their dinner. Once all of the pizza was gone and the little kids put to bed in Scott's room it was time to pick a movie.

"What about Transformers?" Michelle asked.

"We watched that last week," Erin replied.

"We really need to find a better way to do this so we don't have to shit here and try to decide every week," Nik said.

"It's a good point, but we're only doing this two more times before training camp. Nik you're going back to Germany for a while and everyone has vacations and stuff planned. But when we do all decide to get back together during camp we'll come up with something," Miriya said from the couch in between Jordan and Colby.

"How about Lord of the Rings?" Mel asked out of nowhere.

"Which one?" Jordan asked.

"Not the third one, I want to get some sleep tonight," Cassie said.

"Which one is the second one?" Colby asked.

"Two Towers," Sid said from the floor. "What about that one?"

"Sounds good to me," Geno said getting up and going to the movie shelf.

They started the movie at about eight-thirty; Miriya and Cassie who loved the movie when it first came out couldn't help but say every line. That's how it was every weeks, someone would say every line, and if not every line there would be an occasional chime in for a really good one.

At about nine-fifteen a little face appeared at the end of the hallway. "Jamie aren't you supposed to be asleep?" Colby asked with a smile from the couch.

"I`m not sleepy," no one in the room could help but smile at how cute the five year old was. "Can I watch the movie with you?"

"Sweetie this movie is kind of scary, I don`t want you to get nightmares."

"Don`t worry mommy I won't get scared."

"Come on Mel, he'll probably fall asleep anyway."

"No I won't daddy, but thank you for letting me watch the movie." He climbed onto Colby's lap and within ten minutes he was asleep.

"I`ll be right back," Army said carefully getting up off of the couch.

"Colbs, just put him on my bed so he doesn't have to sleep on the floor in Scott's room."

"Thanks Staalsy."

The next day Miriya made dinner as Jordan took care of Scott. At around six there was a knock on the door and Miriya quickly made sure that everything was ready before opening it. "Ryan," she said giving him a hug. "You remember Jordan and this is my son Scott," she said taking Scott from Jordan's arms so he could shake hands with Ryan.

"Nice to see you again Ryan."

"You too Jordan. You guys remember Debra and this is our daughter Jess."

"Debra."

"Miriya, it's been a while."

"It has, how old is Jess?"

"She just turned three last week, Scott's so cute how old is he?"

"He`ll be three months tomorrow."

"Oh yea baby that reminds me, he rolled over for the first time yesterday."

"Well you look good for only having him three months ago," Ryan said.

Miriya smiled and said, "Well dinner's ready if you guys are hungry."

Almost all of the team was at Miriya and Jordan's house for her twenty-fourth birthday party. As always they had caked before opening presents.

"Happy… oh shit."

Everyone stopped singing at looked over at Cassie who stood at the side of the table.

"Geno you're gonna be a daddy real soon," she said grabbing her stomach. A smile came to his face as they started towards the door.

"You guys go ahead, we'll call the hospital and tell them you're on your way. We'll meet you there."

"Thanks Staalsy," Geno said helping Cassie out the door.
Nik went to the door to help out, "I`m gonna go with them. I`ll see you there."

They made it out to the car and were off to the hospital. The rest of the team wasn't too far behind and filled the labor and delivery floor's waiting room.

"I`m glad we had the party early," Miriya said resting her head on Jordan's shoulder. It was about one and the party has started at noon. All they had really done was eat and talk, well more like mess around than talk. But that's about all the team was good for other than playing hockey that is. Really the team was full of jokesters so it was hard to ever have a dull moment with them.

In the waiting room the guys played cards and watched TV, Cassie's room however was a little more exciting. Her contractions were getting closer together and Geno's hand was getting redder with each one. "I`m sorry if I` hurting your hand," she said after a contraction past.

"It's fine baby, I`m here for you," he brushed a strand of hair from her face and kissed her cheek.

She smiled and another contraction came. The burse came about half-way through to check up on Cassie. She quickly walked back to the door and called for a doctor.

"I think it's time to start pushing," he said when he came into the room.

After fifteen minutes of intense pushing a little Malkin came into the world. The team filled in, but Miriya was the first to hold the baby, after Cassie and Geno that is.

Nathan James Malkin was born on Miriya's birthday June eighteenth, at three oh one pm. He had chocolate brown eyes like both of his parents a bit of brown peach fuzz. He was seventeen inches and five pounds three ounces. Neither of his parents had ever been happier.
